Northern ServicesTherapeutic recreation is one of the many services offered by Northern Manor, which is one of the most fully featured nursing homes in Rockland County. While there are many physical operations and treatments involved in rehabilitation, one of our key goals at Northern Manor is to ensure that our residents stay occupied and have a good time.

What exactly is therapeutic recreation? The purpose is to improve the overall well-being of the ill and disabled through various activities. There are an endless amount of ways to physically and mentally give a resident a sense of normalcy, which is why all of our therapeutic recreation is completely individualized. Retirement is a time when you and your spouse should be enjoying life. When you’ll be able to make your dreams come true and live out the plans you’ve been making for a lifetime. There are many choices to make, but you don’t have infinite resources on hand with which to make them, so planning will be key during your retirement. Here are a few things that ought to be avoided, at least, if you want to make the most out of your retirement.

  • Don’t drop your healthcare. Yes, you may be eligible for medicare, but the quality of care available in the U.S. depends on what type of plan you have. Veterans and their families are fortunate to have VA clinics and hospitals, and many other people have the option to stay on a pension health plan after retirement. Do it, medicare should be a last resort. Living in a retirement center can offset some healthcare costs.
  • Don’t make any large purchases rashly: Buying  a boat or an RV might have been your dream when you were a journeyman accountant, but when that dream becomes reality you might not like what you see. Spend your money wisely.
  • Do consider downsizing. Moving to a smaller , more manageable  home or retirement center can help you save money and it can make the process of aging easier.

With the cost of insurance rising, many people and their insurance can no longer afford to pay for post care services, despite the need for them. Because of this many patients will skip some or all of rehabilitative care in an effort to save money. This is not a good idea. The Springs: A Community with Expert Care

rehab centers New YorkLast week we talk a little bit about our Rockland County nursing home, FountainView. FountainView is better suited for seniors who want independent living. They do not need full-time medical care services, but they want to enjoy the company and community of being with other active seniors. Today we’ll briefly discuss one of our other assisted living centers located on the same premises, The Springs.

The Springs is intended for seniors who need extra help with either medical care or daily activities. Seniors will reside in either studio or one bedroom units and will receive the amount of care they need, along with all the amenities of the FountainView. There are six levels of care we provide to ensure our residents are well looked after. Care Level 1 receives full grooming/bathing assistance three times a week. Level 2 receives assistance every morning while Level 3 has assistance in the morning and evening. Level 4 receives the same as Level 3 but with an escort to all meals. Level 5 has the addition of toilet assistance, when needed, and medication management. And finally Level 6 receives everything previously listed as well as the most care with assistance eating.
